Dennis Birch
Deputy Chief, Newport Beach Police Department
Deputy Chief Dennis Birch began his law enforcement career with the Newport Beach Police Department in February of 1989. He has worked in a variety of assignments, including Gang Suppression, Bike Patrol, SWAT, Economic Crimes Detective, FBI Task Force Detective, Patrol Sergeant, Personnel & Training Sergeant, and as Lieutenant in all of the divisions. In addition to his regular duties, the Deputy Chief has also served as the SWAT Sergeant and SWAT Commander.
A graduate of Cal State University, Dominguez Hills, Deputy Chief Birch has earned a Bachelor of the Arts Degree in Quantitative Economics and a Minor in Finance. He also graduated from the Supervisory Leadership Institute in 2006.
Deputy Chief Birch grew up in Mission Viejo, and enjoys sports (lacrosse and hockey in particular), mountain biking, reading and traveling.
