NAME BADGE ETIQUETTE

✅ Proper Placement for Business Name Badges on Business attire or suits:

Right Side of the Chest (Preferred)

    • Why? When shaking hands, your right side is naturally visible to the other person. Placing the badge here makes it easier for them to quickly catch your name without glancing awkwardly.
    • This also aligns with the line of sight when people read left to right, starting from your right-hand side.

Aligned with the Shoulder Seam or Just Below the Collarbone

    • Avoid placing the badge too low (such as mid-torso) or too high (like on the lapel edge). It should sit cleanly on the suit jacket, about 2–3 inches below the shoulder seam.

On the Suit Jacket, Not the Shirt or Lapel

    • Always attach it to the jacket or blazer, not the dress shirt underneath. If the blazer is removed for part of the event, you can move the badge to the shirt temporarily.

Straight and Legible

    • Ensure the badge is level and free from wrinkles or tilts. If it’s a clip or magnetic badge, make sure it lies flat. Your name and organization should be easy to read from a short distance.

❌ What to Avoid:

  • Don’t place it on the left side unless instructed or part of a uniformed policy.
  • Avoid crooked or wrinkled placement—it sends a message of carelessness.
  • Don’t wear it on your lanyard if the event or organization provides a lapel name badge—choose one or the other, not both.
