Via Lido Plaza Hosts Tree Lighting Ceremony

Via Lido Plaza will kick off the holidays with a festive Tree Lighting Ceremony for the community on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 7pm. Visitors will enjoy carolers from Newport Harbor High School, in-store promotions, enter-to-win opportunities, and a complimentary Christmas movie playing at The Lido Theater. The evening will culminate in a 20 ft. Coastal Redwood Pine being lit in front of West Marine at 7pm.

The evening’s fun will begin near West Marine with a Scavenger Hunt that will take visitors to stores and restaurants throughout the center and provide an opportunity to win a variety of prizes when returning the completed, stamped card before the Tree Lighting at 7pm. Among the prizes are a $500 gift card to Via Lido Drugs, a pair of sunglasses from SALT Optics (a $500 value), a Newport Gift Basket from Crews Quarters (a $150 value), and free pizza for a year from Zpizza (three people will win a coupon booklet providing one free pizza once a month.) Winners will be announced at the Tree Lighting and need to be present to win.

In addition, West Marine will have a kid’s craft where children can build small wooden boats, SALT Optics will have cookie decorating for youngsters, and visitors can meet Santa inside ReMax. The Lido House will also be on hand to provide hot apple cider.

The Coastal Redwood Pine is a permanent addition to Via Lido Plaza, as part of the center’s on-going improvements. Coming on the heels of the Lido Theater restoration, Fritz Duda Company has added blue and grey striped awnings to the center, and refreshed signage with a bright blue and orange decorative sail at the entrance of the center at Balboa Blvd. and Finley. Additional improvements will be coming in 2026.

Via Lido Plaza, including the iconic Lido Theater, was purchased by Fritz Duda Company in 1986 and the company has continued the stewardship of the landmark property and entertainment venue. The company most recently restored Lido Theater to its original art deco design, celebrating the five-year project with a grand reopening in the fall of 2024.
