Tim Hetherton
Library Services Director, City of Newport Beach
Tim Hetherton became library services director in January 2014, having previously served the City of Newport Beach for more than 15 years as a reference librarian, adult services coordinator and library services manager. Tim came to the Newport Beach Public Library as a librarian in 1998.
Tim brings over 20 years of experience with public libraries. Throughout his tenure, he has concentrated on making the Newport Beach Public Library a customer-centered organization that is highly responsive to its community of users.
Tim oversees the Newport Beach Central Library and three branch libraries, a full-time and part-time staff of approximately six dozen employees, a $7.2-million annual budget, and works closely with support groups such as the Friends of the Library and the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation. He also provides staff support to the Board of Library Trustees and the City Arts Commission.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from St. Mary’s College, a Master’s degree in International Studies from Dominican University and a Master’s degree in Library Science from San Jose State University.
