Outstanding student athletes from Newport Harbor, Corona del Mar and Sage Hill Schools will be honored for their athletic achievements at this dinner event. In addition, special coaches will be honored.

Chris Duplanty

Three Time Olympian
and Silver Medalist for Water Polo

Chris Duplanty is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) and a three-time Olympian in the sport of water polo. Chris competed in the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games – earning a silver medal in 1988 and leading Team USA – as captain of the team – at the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia.  In addition, Duplanty returned to his fourth Olympic Games in 2000 as an assistant coach of the first US Olympic women’s water polo team, winning the silver medal in Sydney, Australia.

Chris grew up Hawaii and came to UCI after attending Punahou School where he was a state champion and All American in two sports, water polo and swimming.

Following high school, Chris continued to achieve both conference and national recognition while competing in both swimming and water polo at UCI.  In addition to achieving All-Conference, All America and Scholar-Athlete honors, Chris and his teammates led the UCI to a NCAA Division I National Championship water polo title.

Continuing to grow and develop outside of the pool – and after completing his undergraduate degree from the UCI – Chris went on to receive an M.B.A from the UCI Paul Merage Graduate School of Management.

Chris has enjoyed being able to successfully transfer the skills he learned as a world-class athlete to his professional career.  His diverse experience includes senior executive positions at companies such as worldwide sporting good brand, adidas, as well as the national Fortune 500 healthcare company, UnitedHealth Group.   In addition, Chris spent 12 years with the United States Olympic Committee in a variety of roles which included as a member of their Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

In recognition of his many accomplishments, Chris has been inducted into five different Halls of Fame – including the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame, University of California, Irvine Athletic Hall of Fame, Punahou School Athletic Hall of Fame, Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame and the United States Water Polo Hall of Fame.
