June 7, 2014 is the first annual Wooden Boat Festival at Balboa Yacht Club.

The 2014 Festival will bring maritime life alive by showcasing 50 exceptional wooden boats of all shapes and sizes in the water and on land. Experienced boaters as well as novices will come together to enjoy maritime art, savory food, and lively music. Nautical craftsmanship and wares will be exhibited. The Festival will conclude with a 4:00 p.m. awards ceremony to present People’s Choice Awards for power, sail and human powered wooden vessels.

The event is one of about 25 nationwide, and is intended to be one of the most publicly respected over time. The event is organized to honor wooden boating, the craftsmanship, devotion and skill of those involved in appreciating, preserving, and promoting our nautical heritage.

The public is invited to celebrate the maritime heritage of Newport Harbor and wooden boats past and present. BYC is continuing the tradition of waterfront festivals by providing a yearly gathering place for people to come and enjoy the rich history and character of wooden boats in our harbor and on the ocean. Admission is free.

Balboa Yacht Club Wooden Boat Festival Planning Committee is seeking marine/nautical exhibitors for the June 7, 2014 Festival. Limited exhibit spaces will feature businesses that specialize in marine sales and service, including boat products, sales, apparel, education, and accessories.
