Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce Recommended Positions

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce has decided to take no position.   Although generally supportive of programs to assist veterans and low income earners, the Board had generally mixed feelings on increasing the State’s debt burden to fund these programs.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is supportive of re-allocating the revenue already being collected by the Millionaire’s Tax to support payment of bonds to assist with providing housing for the homeless.

Recognizing the bonds to be sold will be used for water-related infrastructure and environmental projects; the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is supportive of state borrowing to improve the state’s water system.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce has decided to take no position.  Although Board members are generally in favor of supporting Children’s Hospitals; there was a split in opinion as to issuing bonds to provide funds for hospitals that are businesses.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce urges a yes vote on Prop. 5.  The Board favors allowing seniors and disabled people to transfer their property tax basis from one house to the other without limit to geography or the number of times they want to use the exemption.  The policy promotes home affordability.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce urges a yes vote on Prop. 6.    It is the belief of the Board that the state already collects significant revenue from gas tax fees which should be used for their intended purpose and that additional funding is not necessary.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce has no express opinion either way on Prop 7.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is opposed to the state dictating the amount a dialysis business can charge and how much profit it can make.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is opposed to allowing local governmental agencies to impose rent control as being counterproductive to providing adequate affordable housing.

The Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is supportive of allowing ambulance businesses to require their employees to be “on-call” during their breaks as long as they are paid.  This proposition would overturn a recent court ruling that would require mandatory no work breaks.

Connection. Advocacy. Education. Community.
