Julie Laughton is a graduate of Iowa State University where she studied Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Mechanical Engineering and Interior Design. After graduating in 1985, she moved to New York City where she spent the first 7 years of her professional career working for two different Architecture firms and the top five builders in Manhattan. Her clients in New York City included Bank of America’s 5th Avenue Corporate Offices, Citibank’s Park Avenue Corporate Offices, David Webb Jewelry on Park Avenue, Weinberg Law Offices, Rizzo Law Offices and the Friars Club.

In 1991, Julie left New York City, moved to Los Angeles and quickly found her way to Laguna Beach. She added Certified Custom Kitchen and Bath Designer to her Interior Design License, and then became a licensed General Contractor. She devoted her career to custom home design and remodeling, with a focus on historical homes.

With her passion for the Art Deco Era, she fell in love with all the early California homes built from 1910 through the 1930’s, the Spanish and Mediterranean styles, the Craftsman and of course the California Bungalows.

Julie has completed over 1,000 remodels to date with 40 projects located on the Balboa Peninsula alone. She specializes in providing her clients a seamless one-stop shop Design Build service where the client only talks to one person throughout the entire project. Equipped with her ability to visualize and her talent to draw, Julie can conceptualize the end result before the project even starts. She provides all the permit ready plans, which includes the architectural plans, construction documents, lighting plans, interior design plans, surveys and topo maps, geotechnical reports, structural engineering, civil engineering, Title 24 and MEP plans. Along with providing all the plans, Julie personally oversees the permit process at the city. After the plans are approved, Julie pulls the permit as the contractor and runs the job on a daily basis.

Julie’s motto is, “It all starts with a good plan.” She applies her expertise and experience in the custom design arena to create plans that make her clients homes better so their lives are better. Julie’s work is beautiful and timeless, and she prides herself on getting the job done with excellence with her longtime tried and true team of handpicked experts and craftsmen. Always painstaking and meticulous with her design details, Julie is able to help her clients achieve their goals for their homes. Whether it involves remodeling your existing home or building a dream home from the ground up, working with Julie is a stress-free and enjoyable experience.
