 umbia Yachts grew to become the world's largest fiberglass sailboat manufa
 cturer with manufacturing plants throughout the world. Today's Columbia Ya
 chts\, built by Dick's son\, Vince\, are very different than the boats his
  father launched five decades ago\, but they share one thing in common\; p
 ushing the limits of current yacht-building technology with state-of-the-a
 rt design and precision construction\, including the prestigious Columbia 
 Carbon 32.\n\nVince Valdes\, President of Columbia Yachts since 2001. Mr. 
 Valdes is a 52 year resident of Newport Beach\, graduated from UCLA in 199
 0 &amp\; attended Corona Del Mar High School. Mr. Valdes is married to wif
 e Cindy and together have 3 children. He is an avid sailor and former Newp

 e Skipper in the U.S.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Charlie Welsh (US
 A) is a all around well developed sailor who grew up racing at NHYC. Now 
 he has launched a campaign for an all under-25\, mixed-gender crew to com
 pete in the 50th Transpacific Yacht Race aboard a turbo’d Columbia Yacht
 s built Carbon 32. The "Red Star Sailing Team" has been working through t
 he winter with Columbia Yachts to refit the yacht. Starting this spring\, 
 crew members will train extensively along the California Coast in preparat
 ion for the Transpac. "Our overall goal\, besides winning our class and th
 e Corinthian trophy\, Red Star aims to provide sailing opportunities for 
 young adults who often lack the financial means to participate at a high l
 evel.\n\nCharlie grew up racing dinghies in the Newport Beach area\, out o
 f Newport Harbor Yacht Club. He moved into keelboat sailing skippering 
 a youth team aboard the J/124 MARISOL and then began a serious match ra
 cing campaign that has taken his Red Star team all over the globe. Charli
 e is currently the number 10 ranked match race skipper in the U.S.[/vc_c
