 portant\;}"]Kim Brandt joined the executive team of Newport Beach in May 2
 011\, bringing her 30 years of professional planning practice and extensiv
 e experience in all phases of municipal planning. As Community Development
  Director\, Kim is responsible for Building and Life Safety\, Real Estate 
 Administration\, Coastal Act compliance\, Code Enforcement\, and Planning.
  With the recession now officially over\, building and planning activities
  are in full swing in Newport Beach. In early 2017\, the Department had ov
 er 2\,300 active building permits that were valued at $750 million.\n\nThe
  Association of California Cities recently recognized the Community Develo
 pment team with a Golden Hub of Innovation award. Also in 2016\, the Build
 ing Division was named the State Building Department of the Year by the Ca
 lifornia Building Officials. In conjunction with other city departments\, 
 the Community Development team has been extensively involved in the City
 ’s neighborhood revitalization programs in Balboa Village\, Lido Village
 \, West Newport\, Corona del Mar\, Santa Ana Heights\, and Mariners’ Mil
 e. Key projects include the Lido House Hotel currently under construction 
 and the sale of the Balboa Theater to a private entity with the goal of pr
 eserving\, renovating\, and restoring it as a key public venue on Balboa P
 eninsula.\n\nKim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Ecology\, with 
 an emphasis in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Californ
 ia\, Irvine. She is also certified by the American Institute for Certified
  Planners and is active in the Orange Section of the American Planning Ass
 ociation and the Planning Directors Association of Orange County.[/vc_colu
