  elected to the Costa Mesa City Council for the third time in 2014. Prior 
 to that\, she was elected to the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Boar
 d of Trustees in 2010. She previously served the public on the Costa Mesa 
 City Council when elected in November 2004 and again in 2008.\n\nKatrina
 ’s focus is on making Costa Mesa better for families. She has two school
  age boys and is married to Casey Swanson\, a local teacher. Katrina serve
 d as the school board Legislative Representative and liaison to the Newpor
 t Mesa Arts Commission\, Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce Education Committe
 e\, and the Costa Mesa Youth Sports Council.\n\nAs a City Council member\,
  Katrina served as the chair to the Redevelopment Agency and City Council 
 liaison to the following: OC Fair\, Newport-Mesa Unified School District\,
  Youth in Government Program\, Child Care amp\; Youth Services Committee\,
  Cultural Arts Committee\, and Santa Ana River Trail Blue Ribbon Committee
 .\n\nKatrina also served her community as chair of the Orange Coast Colleg
 e President Search Committee\, and has previously served as chair of the C
 oast Community College Citizens Oversight Committee\, a trustee for the Ve
 ctor Control Board\, and council representative for the Advisory Counsel t
 o the Orange County Great Park. Prior to her election to city council\, sh
 e served on the city’s Planning Commission for more than five years\, as
  a member of the Newport-Mesa Unified School District Measure A Oversight 
 Committee\, and the Costa Mesa Human Relations Committee.\n\nKatrina also 
 volunteers her time on several non-profit boards. She is president of the 
 Costa Mesa High School Foundation\, and Academics Director for the Costa M
 esa Football Boosters. She was a director and secretary for the Costa Mesa
  Community Athletic Foundation and president of the recently formed Nation
 al Scholastic Skateboarding League.\n\nShe has also served as a Director f
 or four county-wide non-profit boards: the Girl Scouts\, the Orange County
  Women Lawyers Association\, the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association\,
  and Orange County HeadStart. Katrina is a member of the Hispanic and Celt
 ic Bar Associations\, and has volunteered her time for numerous civic orga
 nizations including Pediatric Cancer Research\, TH Hoops\, Costa Mesa Pop 
 Warner\, the Costa Mesa High School and Sonora Elementary School PTAs\, wh
 ere she is a past President and Honorary Service Award Recipient.\n\n[/vc_
