 lear energy production at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station helped cle
 ar the air in Southern California with its emissions-free electricity. In 
 2013\, the plant was permanently retired and started on a new journey call
 ed decommissioning.\nSONGS’ Public Information Officer John Dobken will 
 provide an overview of the decommissioning process\, show the progress bei
 ng made to dismantle the structures on site\, and explain how the spent nu
 clear fuel that remains is being safely stored.\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_col

 ]Promoting science and fact-based discussions about nuclear energy and spe
 nt nuclear fuel has been one of John's passions for more than a decade.  
 He gets ample opportunity to do just that in his role of public informatio
 n officer and media relations manager for the San Onofre Nuclear Generatin
 g Station and Southern California Edison.  John manages relationships wit
 h local and national media\, as well as social media channels and particip
 ates in community outreach.\n\nPrior to joining SCE\, John led external en
 gagement strategies for Energy Northwest\, owner and operator of Columbia 
 Nuclear Generating Station in Washington state.  John has a master's degr
 ee in business management\, and a journalism degree from San Diego State U
 niversity.  He worked as a television news anchor and reporter for 14 yea
